On 9 August Günther Komnick hosted a luncheon party for 140 guests to celebrate his 85th birthday. The event was held at Hudson's Restaurant, Vredenheim Estate in the Stellenbosch winelands. The entertainment included the traditional Swiss Huusmusig band, in which Günther plays the piano accordion. Gunther's son Christian and daughter Kela traveled from Perth to join in the celebrations.
